The staff of the Shire of Golden Plains were working daily in substandard, ageing accommodation with poor community interface facilities in an inflexible 1980’s period brick building. Baumgart Clark Architects master planned, then designed and documented, the extension and renewal of the Council facility. We created a generous new ‘shopfront’ for community access to Council services, a new multi-purpose Council Chamber, and much improved office accommodation mixing open-plan and individual offices into a mix that suited the organisational structure. This project uses heavy, expressive, reclaimed timbers in columns and trusses to interpret a raw, local and regional aesthetic, resulting in a facility that is country through-and-through.
